Claire has started experimenting with VIA's design. Pictured below is an image from Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1964 film, L'Enfer, the anchor theme in LACE's upcoming show, The End of the Night. This is only one page of over 60-pages of VIA's print content, coming your way mid-July.
Casey Winkleman sat down with Leah Shirley in her neighborhood of Highland Park to discuss past and current work, her experiences growing up in Austin, and transitioning to Los Angeles after finishing her undergrad in Chicago. In addition to making her colorgrams, Shirley is also an assistant for The Dennis Hopper Art Trust, established to preserve the artistic legacy of the late actor and artist Dennis Hopper. Currently, Leah makes work at Contact Photo, one of the only wet darkroom labs left in Los Angeles. Look out for Leah Shirley's full feature in the first print issue of VIA Publication.
Hi! Please consider donating to us!
Thank you to collaborators Justin Teichen and Gangplans for providing the film direction and music
The start-up costs involved in producing a self-published magazine can get rather expensive. We are also very aware that it's not always an obvious cause to support the production of an LA-based magazine, but we see ourselves as almost LA-cultural ambassadors, excited to bring our view of LA to our friends, neighbors and culture enthusiasts around the city and soon, the country.
We are hoping to raise enough money for our initial two issues, producing a total of 300 magazines. Your donation will help fund our project in the following ways:
-Our most expensive cost of production are ink and paper supplies
-Associated programming surrounding the launch of each issue
-Support for our future contributors
Although we can't initially offer anything for your donation, we will give you the biggest letter of thanks in our first issue and find a way to return the favor in the near future.
We appreciate your generous support.
Julie, Ally, Casey & Claire.
